About Restaurant
The Hindu Temple Canteen, part of the Hindu Temple Society of North America (Ganesh Temple) in Flushing, Queens, is a beloved South Indian vegetarian eatery tucked into the basement of the temple’s community center.  Established in 1993 primarily to prepare naivedyam (food offerings) in line with Hindu ritual traditions, the canteen has grown into a gathering place for devotees and food lovers alike. Simple and unadorned in ambiance—plain communal tables, functional décor—the canteen’s charm lies in its food: authentic South Indian fare like dosas, idlis, vadas, uttapams, sambar, and coconut chutney. Generous portions, modest prices, and warm service make it a favorite among regulars and visitors. Open every day from morning till evening, it serves both indoor dining and takeout (and modern delivery options), offering over a hundred vegetarian items and snacks year-round
